Water paint common problems: water paint viscosity deviation index

The formulation and process of water based paint remain unchanged. However, the viscosity of the water based paint produced deviates from the index and is not within the control scope, for three reasons:

1.Water based paint raw material properties change. Changes such as filler particle size distribution, oil absorption volatile oil absorption of pigments and fillers high viscosity increases. Oil absorption of low viscosity decreases or thickener thickening efficiency drops, often alkali swelling (ASE) and hydrophobic modified alkali swelling (HASE) in the process of storage and transportation because of the vibration producing bubble or cold after the emulsion particle aggregation demulsification, reduces the thickening efficiency.

2.The original measurement is not accurate, especially for small doses of water paint raw materials (such as thickener), with a large scale weighing error when the additive is not completely transferred into the paint, resulting in errors.
3.Changes in pH value may also lead to changes in viscosity. The thickening of alkali swelling (ASE) and hydrophobic modified alkali swelling (HASE thickeners is affected by the pH value of the system. Generally, the thickening starts at a pH value of about 6, and reaches the best at a pH value of about 7.5.

Solution

Add water to reduce the viscosity of water paint on the high viscosity, add thickener to improve the viscosity of water based paint on the low viscosity .
If it's a pH problem, adjust the pH .
Pay attention to the stability of water-based paint raw materials, such as strengthening the control of water-based paint raw materials, before weighing, the liquid water-based paint raw materials fully stirred evenly .
Improve the accuracy of measurement, the large scale said large amount of water paint raw materials, small scale measurement additives.
