Acrylic resin is made of acrylic ester and methacrylate and other alene monomers copolymerization resin, through the selection of different resin structure, different formula, production process and solvent composition, can be synthesized different types, different performance and different application of acrylic resin, Acrylic resin can be divided into thermoplastic acrylic resin and thermosetting acrylic resin according to the difference of structure and film forming mechanism.

The main absorption peak of acrylic resin synthesized by copolymerization of acrylic ester and methacrylate monomer is outside the range of solar spectrum, so the acrylic resin paint has excellent light resistance and outdoor aging performance.

Thermoplastic acrylic resin in the film forming process does not occur further crosslinking, so its relative molecular weight is larger, has good light and color preservation, water and chemical resistance, fast drying, convenient construction, easy construction recoating and rework, aluminum powder preparation of aluminum powder whiteness, good positioning. Thermoplastic acrylic resin is widely used in automobile, electrical appliance, machinery, construction and other fields.

Thermosetting acrylic resin refers to a certain functional group in the structure, in the paint through and added amino resin, epoxy resin, polyurethane and other functional groups reaction to form a network structure, thermosetting resin is generally relatively low molecular weight. Thermosetting acrylic coatings have excellent fullness, gloss, hardness, solvent resistance, weather resistance, no color change in high temperature baking, no yellowing. The most important application is to make amino acrylic paint with amino resin, which is widely used in cars, motorcycles, bicycles, coil steel and other products.

According to the mode of production, it can be divided into:

1.Emulsion polymerization is through monomer, initiator and its reaction solvent reaction polymerization, the general resin for solid content of 50% resin solution! Is containing about 50% of the solvent resin, the general reaction with the solution of benzene (toluene or xylene), esters (ethyl acetate, butyl acetate), is generally single or mixed! Solid emulsion type acrylic resin has solvent immutability! Generally due to the choice of solvents and the product performance is not the same! Generally have a certain color number! The glass transition temperature is low, because the reaction is usually done with no methyl acrylate! Solid this type of resin can have a higher solid content, up to 80%! Can do high solid paint, production is simple! But because of solvent immutability, transportation is not convenient!

2, suspension polymerization is a more complex production process, is generally used as a method for the production of solid resin! Solid acrylic resin, which is generally used with methyl acrylate down reaction polymerization! Acrylates without methyl are generally with a certain functional group! The polymerization reaction in the reaction is not easy to control, easy to sticky to the pot! The general process is to put monomers, initiators, additives into the reaction axe and then into the distilled water reaction! After a certain time and temperature reaction, wash it in water, and then dry it! Filter etc! The production control of its products is more strict! If in the middle of which link can not do a bit, the product will have a certain impact! Is generally reflected in the color above and molecular weight difference!

3, bulk polymerization is a high efficiency of the production process! The ingredients are usually placed in a special plastic film! Then react into lumps, take out the crushing, and then filter into, generally this method of production of solid acrylic resin purity is all the production method can be the highest! His product stability is also the best, but his shortcomings are also full of big! Acrylic resin with benzene polymerization for solvent solubility is not strong! Sometimes the same monomer with the same ratio of suspension polymerization is several times less soluble! And the dispersion of the pigment is not as good as suspension polymerization of acrylic resin!

4.Other polymerization method solvent reaction, reaction by solvent together to do intermediary substance! After the reaction kettle is good, then desolvent! With acrylic monomer (methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, etc.) as the basic components, through the cross-linked network structure of insoluble and insoluble acrylic polymer.

There are two types of cross-linking methods:

(1)Reactive crosslinking type, the functional groups in the polymer have no crosslinking reaction ability, must be added with at least 2 functional groups of crosslinking component (such as melamine resin, epoxy resin, urea resin and metal oxide, etc.) through the reaction and crosslinking curing, crosslinking component can not be stored for a long time after addition, should be used in time;

(2) Self-crosslinking, the polymer chain itself contains two or more reactive functional groups (hydroxyl, carboxyl, amide, hydroxymethyl, etc.), heated to a certain temperature (or at the same time add catalyst), functional groups react with each other to complete the crosslinking. This kind of thermosetting acrylic resin is mainly used as fabric, leather, paper primer, industrial paint and architectural paint.
