As the saying goes, three-point paint, seven-point painting. For water-based coatings, especially for water-based wood coating in the home improvement market, the level of coating technology has a direct impact on product use. In order to let everyone better master the water-based paint technology, we specially launched the water-based paint coating process series this week.
The substrate treatment includes three steps: polishing, deburring and sealing.
1.Polishing
The general wood surface to be painted should be ground first with 200# sandpaper and then polished with 600# sandpaper to make it smooth and smooth.
The fine wood workpiece can be directly polished with 600# sandpaper. Fine sanding will make the wood grain tight and reduce the graininess of the grain.
2.Deburring
After the wood is flooded, the water penetrates into the micro-gap between the wood fiber tube and the wood grain, causing it to expand and enlarge, highlighting the surface of the wood, and cannot be restored after drying. Therefore, after the water-based paint is applied to the wood, wood grain protrusions, granules, and burrs may occur. There are two ways to eliminate or reduce the occurrence of granulation and burrs after applying the first water-based paint.
The surface to be coated is rubbed with a damp cloth that can be squeezed out of water to sufficiently wet the surface of the wood, and after drying, the formed burrs and granules are polished with fine sandpaper. Then apply a primer and dry it with a sandpaper of about 400#. The porous wood should be painted with two primers and then polished. At this time, the first primer should be diluted with 5% to 10% of water before use.
The wood surface is closed with a wax-free shellac paint. This method is better than the wet method of water, in addition to preventing granulation and long burrs from being applied to the water-based paint, and also increasing the layering of the wood. However, due to the color of the shellac itself, the wood tends to have a light amber color. The shellac paint back cover is very useful for the old paint surface and the surface of wood that may have been contaminated by grease, mold release agent and silicone compound, which can prevent the construction of water-based paint from shrinkage, fisheye and other construction problems. If the painted surface is found during the painting process, especially when there are shrinkage holes and fish eyes after painting the old paint surface, the applied water-based paint should be wiped off, and then sealed with dewaxed rubber paint and then water-coated paint.Shellac paint is an alcohol solution of shellac, which can be applied by brushing or wiping. After the back cover, use sandpaper of 400# or more, and then wipe the cleaned surface with alcohol or a damp cloth to increase the adhesion of the topcoat.
