Classification of surfactant applications in coatings:
According to the role of the classification, the coating industry used surfactants can be divided into the following categories: emulsifier, pigment surface treatment agent, pigment wetting dispersant, defoamer, levelling agent, anti-mold, fungicide, antistatic agent, brightening agent, slippery agent and so on.
Application of surfactants in coating industry - Antistatic:
Antistatic agents are surfactants that leak electrostatic charges through different channels or reduce the friction factor to inhibit the generation of electrostatic charges. It is generally required to have the following characteristics:
①Prevent electrostatic effect
②Prevent lasting electrostatic effect
③It has good miscibility with film forming material
④Does not affect the other properties of the paint, such as does not make the film yellowing.
The principle of antistatic agent is: the use of its cationic surface activity characteristics, adsorption of water in the air, so that its own polarization, the formation of an extremely thin conductive layer on the surface, forming a static leakage channel, so its effect depends on its own structure and the relative humidity of the environment.
The application of surfactants in the coating industry - leveling: To use leveling agents to improve the leveling of coatings, the following two factors can be considered
1, the selection of active agents that can reduce the surface tension of the coating/coating film to greatly improve the leveling of the coating.
2, choose a solvent that has a slow volatilization rate and can reduce the viscosity of the paint construction, improve the fluidity of the paint, extend the leveling time, and achieve the final leveling.
